This album was inspired by looking back in time to the Jazz Funk music of the 70s, 80s & 90s. Musical influences are so important, as without them we start with nothing. As artists and musicians, we spend thousands of hours obsessing over our predecessors’ & peers’ music, hoping we can absorb something from their artistry into our own musical DNA.
After playing the drums for 4 years I wanted to approach this album from a drummer’s perspective. Instead of sitting down at the keyboard and composing as I normally would, I have generally started the writing process from the groove! It's been a very enjoyable album to write and record and has been a journey of musical discovery. If you tell me this tune or that tune is reminiscent of... then I've achieved my goal!
I hope you enjoy listening to the album as much as I've enjoyed making it!
